About Women in Aviation Tampa Bay Chapter

Women in Aviation Tampa Bay Chapter is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women in aviation. We provide networking opportunities, promote aviation careers for women, and engage in community outreach programs to encourage and support women in aviation. Our chapter is committed to breaking down barriers in the aviation industry and promoting gender equality. Whether you're a student, professional, or enthusiast, we welcome you to join our community and be a part of the soaring legacy of women in aviation.

Women in Aviation International (WAI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the encouragement and advancement of women in all aviation and aerospace career fields and interests.

WAI Tampa Bay Chapter meetings and events are held throughout the year for networking and educational opportunities.  Many of our sponsors are in our local community. We'll have opportunities for airport tours, training facility tours, and more. Past events have included tours of MacDill Air Base, Drone demonstrations, National Aviation Academy tours, the annual Holiday Cookie Exchange, potluck picnics, and much more. Coming soon, we will have scholarship opportunities for WAITB Chapter members. Check our events calendar for upcoming WAITB and non-chapter aviation-related events throughout the year.

Our biggest event of the year is the annual Girls in Aviation Day. Each year we invite girls and boys of all ages to experience the many opportunities in fields of aviation with aircraft displays, hands-on interactions with pilots and their equipment, meeting positive female role models and much more.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for this event. The next Girls in Aviation Day event will take place Saturday, September 20, 2025.  We hope to see you there!

The concept for the Women in Aviation Tampa Bay Chapter was born in April 2014 when aviation enthusiasts, Angye Fox and Daniel Funk, attended the Sun 'n Fun event in Lakeland. While exploring the many tables of vendors and sponsors they stopped at the Women in Aviation International table where they met Audra Hoy who was then the WAI Chapter Coordinator. Audra said, "Hey, we don't have a chapter in the Tampa Bay area. Would the two of you consider starting one?" So they did! Our first official meeting was on June 3, 2014 at the Jet Center which is now Sheltair. From attendees of the first meeting, Daniel Funk, Aleta Vinas, and Angye Fox are still Chapter members to this day.
